Mary Claretha Holloway Davis was born on April 2, 1951, the only girl of five children to the late Deacon James Willie Holloway and Annie Mae Holloway, in Aiken, SC. Affectionately known to her family members and friends as “Claire”, Mary was an intelligent, charismatic and well-disciplined child that excelled at everything she put her hand to.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age, and was baptized at the Pine Hill Baptist Church in Johnston, SC under the leadership of Rev. W.H. Hightower. where she served on the Usher Board. She was a Brownie, a Girl Scout, and in weekly attendance at the Second Baptist Church Sunday School
After graduating with honors from Martha Scofield High (Aiken, SC) in 1969. She was employed by United Merchants at Bath Mill, Bath, SC as a Weaver. She continued to excel, graduating with her associate’s degree in accounting from Durham College (NC). After graduation she returned to Aiken and was recruited by Georgia Pacific Corporation in Augusta, GA. She was transferred to Georgia-Pacific Corporation in Atlanta, GA where she worked as a managerial level accountant for 35 years.
Mary married her high school sweetheart, Willie Fred, May 19, 1984, and settled in Atlanta, GA where she made her life. Mary was beautiful, patient, intelligent, loving and caring. She was a loving wife of 37 years and mother of three and made her home in Riverdale, GA. She loved quilting with friends at the senior center, served in her community for years as a Boy Scout commissioner, and was a faithful member of Pure Light Baptist Church and Serenity Baptist Ministries She loved her entire family and was known to have a hand in making sure everyone in her family was ok and equipped to put their best foot forward in life. Her presence will be missed by her children, many friends and family members.
She was preceded in death her husband, Willie Fred Davis; her grandson Devin Eugene Crummie; her parents, and loving brothers Bernard Holloway, Rev. James Pervis Holloway, Sr, and Joseph Holloway.
Mary leaves precious memories to her daughters; Janika La”Faye” (Roland) Jackson of Savannah, GA and Felicia “Lee” Davis of Warner Robins, GA, her son whom lovingly cared for her until her passing; Frederick “Fred” Davis of Riverdale, GA, her grandchildren; Gideon, Eliah, Kamille. Ivan and Jael, 1 brother; Rev. Harris M. (Iris) Holloway of Newark, NJ, 1 brother-in-law; Tommy Ray (Jackie) Davis, dear aunt and friend; Carrie “Donya” (Frank) Daniels, uncles; MC (Phoebe) Harris of Rosedale, NY and Milton David Holloway of Las Vegas, Nevada, special friend; Rose, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives; friends and neighbors.
