The National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, Inc. announces the transition of Mr. Laberion Small, brother of Association Member, Caracher "CJ" Small, Jr.
The National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, Inc. sincerely sympathizes with the Small Family. May God continue to watch over you all. We give you this one thought to keep, "Although it's difficult today to see beyond sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow."
Laberion fought a good fight, he finished his course, he kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to him on that day; and to all them also that love his appearing.
Laberion Small was born to the loving parentage of Caracher, Sr. and Irene Johnson Small on October 18, 1961. Affectionately known as Bear, it was the same month of his birth that we find ourselves saying farewell until we meet again.
Bear was an avid jokester and he enjoyed dressing up and wearing his jewelry. He would give you the shirt off his back if you asked. At an early age, he accepted Christ as His Lord and Saviour and was baptized at the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Mobile. He was a 1980 graduate of W.P. Davidson High School and a player on the football team. After high school graduation, he received a certificate of Class “A” welder from Carver State Trade School. Bear commenced his career at the Alabama State Docks before completing high school working alongside his father on the banana boat. He worked on the Alabama State Docks for over 45 years.
Laberion “Bear” Small was preceded in death by his father, Caracher Small, Sr., grandparents: Sam (Lucille Myles) Small, William (Mary Irby) Johnson; aunts, uncles and cousins.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted family: his son, Laberion McConnell; his mother, Irene Johnson Small; his siblings: Mary L. Chambliss, Diane Allison, Felicia E. Murphy, Valerie J. Small and Caracher “C.J.” Small, Jr; nephews and nieces: Ronald (Janelle) Chambliss, Jr., Denae (Chauncey, Sr.) Halsey, James Small, LeCreshia Small, Alicia Allison, Rashad Murphy; great nephews and nieces: Dehaven Halsey and Brooklyn Halsey, Amiya and Ashton Small, Zion Chambliss; other relatives and friends, a devoted friend: Carolyn J. White.
