The National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, Inc. sincerely sympathizes with the Batiste Family. May God continue to watch over you all. We give you this one thought to keep, "Although it's difficult today to see beyond sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow."
On June 26,1958, God blessed Elizabeth and Harrison Batiste, Sr., with a baby boy they named Harrison James Batiste Jr., who was affectionately known as “Jay”.
Jay was born and raised in Los Angeles, California where he attended Normandie Avenue Elementary School, John Muir Junior High School, and Manual Arts High School. After achieving his education, Jay enlisted in the United States Army where he trained to defend his country, respond to emergencies, handle disasters, while supporting the needs of the communities.
While working at Trade Technical Community College in Los Angeles, California, Jay met Olean Ducksworth and instantly knew she was the one. On May 21, 1983, they wed and to this union three sons were born, Harrison James III “OJ”, Deyon Ezelle, and Jayson O’Neil.
Shortly after, Jay relocated his family to Eagle Lake, Texas, where he began his employment with the Texas Department of Public Safety as a groundskeeper and field supervisor. He later worked at Helena Chemical Company in East Bernard, Texas until his health declined.
Family meant the world to Jay and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents Harrison James Batiste, Sr., Pink Ezelle Moore, Sr., and Elizabeth Moore; his grandparents Harry Batiste, Edna Batiste and Alee Jones, and his brother Rodney Moore.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Olean, of 41 years; and his three sons Harrison “OJ” III, Deyon (Somani), and Jayson. 12 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Linda Moore, Rosalyn Jenkins (Joske), and Barbara Ann Moore; 6 brothers, Othur Lockett, Pink Ezelle Moore Jr., (Marjorie), Eugene Moore (Monique), Clearance Moore, Gregory Hill, and Cornelius “Woody” Woods, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
