Deacon Roland Mixon, Sr., was born on February 10, 1940, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Robuster and Essie Mae Mixon. He accepted Christ at an early age and remained a devoted member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Hueytown throughout his life. His service to the church was unwavering, as he faithfully served as a Deacon, Bass Choir Member, Clothes Closet Member, Evangelism Ministry Member, and Sunday School Teacher.

A proud graduate of Westfield High School, Class of 1959, Roland embarked on a life filled with dedication and hard work. On April 11, 1959, he married Eunice Fay Watkins, and together they built a loving family, welcoming four children: Janice, Alesia, Roland Jr., and Kendra.

Roland worked diligently throughout his career at Hillman Hospital, U.S. Pipeshop, Concord Mines, and ultimately at Oak Grove Mine, where he dedicated over 30 years as a coal miner. His strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family were evident in all that he did.

On Monday, February 3, 2025, Deacon Roland Mixon, Sr., answered the Master’s call and entered into eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Annie Ruth Mixon Brown; his grandmother, Mahalia Scott; his aunt, Willie Scott Woods; and his nephew, Kerry Mixon Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 65 years, Eunice Fay Mixon; four children, Janice (Gregory Sr.) Towns, Alesia (Robert Sr.) Leggett, Roland “Mickey” (Venice) Mixon, Jr. and Kendra Mixon; Eleven grandchildren, Twelve great-grandchildren, one niece, Glenda Charlene Mixon; one great-nephew, Kerry (Erica) Mixon Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Deacon Roland Mixon, Sr., lived a life of faith, service, and love. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
